Welcome to Michigan State University Housing!

MSU hosts students from over 125 countries each year, and University Housing is proud to offer international students a wonderful introduction to American culture.  We team with Residence Life to provide a warm welcome and a smooth transition for students that are attending MSU.  We also partner with the Office for International Students and Scholars and the Internationalizing Student Life Office in order to best meet your student's needs while they are abroad.

All residence halls house a variety of American and international students. Undergraduate international students can live in any undergraduate hall. Both American and international students will find a home in McDonel Hall.  The staff is prepared to make accommodations around travel, internships and Study Abroad programs as the typical McDonel student has earned at least 14 credits.  Graduate students or undergraduate students over the age of 21 will be housed in the Owen Graduate Center.  Graduate students may also live in University Apartments in one of two villages.

Employment information

To be eligible for on-campus employment, international students with F-1, J-1 or J-2 visas must be pursuing a full course of study. A full course of study is defined as a minimum of 12 credits at the undergraduate level, 9 credits at the master's level and 6 credits at the doctoral level.

Because the needs of international students vary, you are encouraged to contact the Housing Assignment Office at 517-355-9550 or email housing-info@mail.hfs.msu.edu for assistance with your housing arrangements.
