Whether this is your first student going off to college or you've done this before, University Housing recognizes that parents want to keep up on what's going on. Unlike many K-12 schools, we do not mail home weekly newsletters to keep parents informed; however, we will be updating the parent information site with monthly news. Visit the online U- View to see the current month's information, or you can access previous months or printed edition copies for an extra resource.

Sometimes it is hard for parents to let students navigate their way around, either physically, emotionally or procedurally. MSU has many resources available on the campus to help your student - all they need to do is reach out. For example, right within their hall are 24-hour maintenance services available by contacting the reception desk where phones are staffed 24 hours/day. Dining Services staff can assist with questions if your student has a particular food allergy or question on nutritional content. The Housing Assistant can help your student check-out a 7-day loaner key if they've misplaced their room key. The Hall Manager is also a great resource to students on everything from explaining policies and procedures to the little things like passing out free MSU Hockey tickets to residence hall students competing in the Live On Challenge - a tug of war on ice where students from one hall compete against another between periods of designated hockey games.

One of the best resources available to students on campus is right within their hall - the Residence Life Staff who are a major partner with University Housing. Residence Life Staff include the Hall Student Mentors who live on each floor, the Assistant Hall Directors who are typically grad or masters students who oversee the mentors, and the Hall/Complex Directors who are full-time staff members at the University who supervise the ADS's and Mentors within the hall. Residence Life Staff can help residents enforces and set community standards in the hall, help resolve differences with others, plan leadership and social activities in the hall and connect students with similar interests.

MSU certainly is a wonderful place to be and we hope your student will take advantage of all that it has to offer, including things outside the classroom. From Campus Center movies on up to Broadway shows and athletic events - there's always something for students to do while living on campus.
