The Red Cedar Zone Mason/Abbot, Snyder/Phillips and Shaw Halls Floor Plans:
Close to the geographic center of campus, the Red Cedar Complex provides a variety of living and dining options for students. Mason/Abbot and Snyder/Phillips halls are styled in traditional, ivy-covered, “Collegiate Gothic Style” buildings with beautiful wood ornamentation and decorative plaster details. Conveniently close to the center of campus, Grand River Avenue, shops, and restaurants, it’s the ideal place to live. The view from Shaw Hall highlights the serene Red Cedar River and its central location on campus, a 10-15 minute walk to anywhere and is the closest hall to the Spartan Bookstore and most academic buildings. The Red Cedar Complex halls are coed with community bathrooms (definitely NOT coed!). All have music rooms with pianos and fitness centers, ATMs, and a host of dining services, from Totally Takeout in Shaw to The Gallery in Snyder/Phillips. A computer lab is located in Abbot Hall.

Honors College offers a diverse and lively community for talented students with shared academic and professional goals. Mason has a Residence Halls Association movie office. There is one female quiet floor in Mason/Abbot. Residents in Mason/Abbot dine in The Gallery at Snyder/Phillips. There are also kitchenettes on the third floor where residents can bake cookies or prepare a special dish for a floor program. A computer lab is located in Abbot Hall.
Snyder/Phillips Hall The Gallery is an innovative blending of a residential all-you-care-to-eat and a la carte service. It will be a destination where people come to seek refreshment, meet friends, stop to study, read a book or a newspaper, or drop by for a freshly-prepared meal in a comfortable, lively atmosphere.
Sparty's Coffeehouse, located adjacent to The Gallery has baked goods, salads, prepared sandwiches and other grab-and-go items for you to enjoy in an adjacent seating area complete with couches, work stations and casual seating. They accept Spartan Cash for your added convenience. Snyder/Phillips houses the Residential College Arts and Humanities (RCAH), with new classrooms and faculty offices. Some singles and doubles will remain for students not in the residential college. Snyder/Phillips has rooms with disability access. All rooms in Snyder/Phillips are provided with modular furniture that can be arranged in numerous configurations and designs in order to maximize space. Beds are in a raised configuration when you arrive, but you may lower them or modify them to suit your needs. Absolutely no lofts will be allowed in Snyder/Phillips Hall. The hall features an art studio, music practice rooms, language proficiency center and a gallery to showcase student and visiting artist work.
Shaw Hall is a popular housing option for returning students due to its central location in the heart of campus near many of the academic classrooms and its beauty along the Red Cedar River. Shaw Hall houses predominantly upperclassman and availability for new freshman requesting to live in Shaw is extremely limited. All Shaw rooms are provided with modular furniture that can be arranged in numerous configurations and designs in order to maximize space. Beds are in a raised configuration when you arrive, but you may lower them or modify them to suit your needs. Absolutely no lofts are allowed in Shaw Hall. Shaw has rooms designed to accommodate two, three, or four students. Shaw Hall is the home for the Broad Residential Option for Academic Distinction (BROAD) Freshmen Program. There is a quiet floor for both male and female students. |
