If you are moving out during or between semesters, please contact your housing assistant. To make move-out as painless as possible, start taking things home beginning early in the semester. It’s a good idea to grab empty boxes from the café… they’re a hot commodity at the end of the semester. Proper Checkout You will be given all the necessary information in order to properly check out. FAQs for Move-Out Q. How clean is clean? A. Your room should be as clean as when you moved in. No trash, swept and mopped. Q. What about damages? A. Rooms will be inspected for damages and cleaning charges over closing weekend. Photo documentation will be taken for excessive damage. Do yourself a favor, if something has broken during the year, let your handy maintenance staff fix it before finals week. Charges assessed for cleaning or damages are designed to cover costs and are not meant to be punitive. Your hall manager will have details on charges. Q. What if I left something in my room? A. Rooms are inspected by staff after move-out. Items will be tagged and held in the hall until June 6. After that, they will be considered abandoned property and will be disposed of according to University procedures and ordinances. Q. What if I can’t leave by 8 pm on Friday? A. Limited housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Exceptions for graduation are made through the manager’s office. Here’s a hint, DO NOT wait until Friday to arrange this. Contact your housing manager for details. Q. I am staying on campus this summer, do I still have to check-out? A. If you are staying on campus for the summer, you will be given special instructions from your hall manager. You must follow all check-out procedures. Q. What do I do with my ID card? A. It is yours to keep! Remember you’ll need it in the fall and replacement charges are currently $20.00. Q. What happens to my Spartan Cash account? A. Your Spartan Cash will be waiting for your use in the Fall. If you are not returning to MSU, you may close out your account for a $10 service fee. Q. I am moving to another hall next fall. Where should I store my stuff? A. If you are returning to campus and you would like to store your belongings, make arrangements in the hall where you will live in the fall. Everything must be boxed and labeled with your permanent address. No lofts, furniture, carpet or appliance storage is permitted. |
