Answers to common academic year questions.
If you find yourself in one of these situations outside the academic year,
contact your hall manager for resolution. A. This depends. If you know of a vacant space, you simply contact your housing assistant to complete a simple form and exchange keys. If you don’t know where there is a space, contact the housing assistant who can advise you of available space in the system. Remember that we do not make housing moves or assignments based on ethnicity, creed, race or religion. If you are having a conflict, you are advised to consult your Residence Life staff, beginning with your Mentor. Q. What do I need to do if I want to change my hall? A. If you would like to move to another hall, your housing assistant can help you find out if there is space available. There may be a wait list at their hall of choice. Space permitting, moves are first come, first served. Simple hall change forms and exchange of keys will need to take place to officially complete the move. Your access privileges will also need to be changed. You will essentially check out of one hall before moving into the other. Don’t worry; we’ll walk you through it. Q. Why can’t I move during the first two weeks of the semester? A. We need this time to determine who actually arrives. Some students don’t inform us about a change in plans, or they are completing an off-campus program such as Study Abroad. Q. What if I am leaving for an internship or Study Abroad program? A. Notify your housing assistant as soon as you know you are leaving on a University-sanctioned program. We will hold your space for your return. If you will be gone during sign-up, we will also take care of your housing needs at that time. It is important to let us know you will be gone in order to avoid unnecessary charges. Q. What do I need to do if my roommate leaves (or never shows up)? A. You will be contacted in writing with your options: If all students who wish to be in a double occupancy room are in one, you can choose to keep the room as a single. You may also choose to move to another location, or you can choose to have a student assigned to your room. We generally have students help us make these changes rather than having us automatically place someone in the room. Your hall manager can provide more assistance. Q. What do I do about a roommate conflict? A. Everyone will have conflict, whether they are rooming without a roommate preference or living with their best friend. It is important to discuss issues before they become problems. If you need assistance, simply contact the Residence Life staff in your building, beginning with your Mentor. They’ve seen it all and have been trained to help you. Q. What options do you have for returning students? A. Unique options include McDonel Hall, Williams Hall, in-hall apartments, Van Hoosen Hall, University Apartments, and Owen Graduate Center. On-campus convenience with a decidedly different atmosphere. Q. How can I change my meal plan? A. Simply visit your hall manager’s office. The change will occur the following Sunday. Before you make a change, you should think about the flexibility and access. Some students make a change only to wind up spending more money in off-campus meals. Q. What if I lose my Student ID card? A. Notify your housing assistant immediately! Your card likely has Spartan Cash loaded on it. We can give you a temporary meal pass good for six meals ($5.00 for the pass plus $20 if you don’t return it). |
