Targeted Selection Interviewing Workshop

As the biggest employer on campus, Housing & Food Services faces many of the same challenges that many area employers face when it comes to selecting the right person for our job opportunities. Some of those problems include:

• Retention/Turnover
• Time to Fill
• Time to Productivity/On-boarding
• Right Talent for Future Needs
• Identify Talent for Future Leader Roles (Leadership Pipeline)
• Legal Credibility
• Quality/Accuracy of Hire

To overcome some these problems, H&FS Human Resources will be introducing the Targeted Selection Interviewing Workshop for all hiring managers and supervisors. This behavioral based selection process is focused on seeking applicant information on competencies directly related to the job. Through the interviewing process, hiring managers and supervisors will gather information about the skills and motivations of applicants. The benefits of gathering behavioral information and using Targeted Selection include:

• Interviewers are less likely to be fooled about a candidate's experiences
• Interviewers evaluate past behavior to predict future behavior
• Eliminates misunderstandings about an applicant's experiences

The Targeted Selection Interviewing Workshop will be available soon. For more information or if you need assistance with utilizing the behavioral-based interviewing process, please contact Chet Magaway at 3-5457.
