MSU-Grown Greens Come to Landon Café

When students return from spring break, there will be a new item featured on the salad bar in the Landon cafeteria: mixed greens grown right here on campus at the MSU Student Organic Farm.

The MSU Student Organic Farm began production in the spring of 2002, based on the vision of a group of innovative students. The farm provides an opportunity for students to apply first-hand the principles they learn in the classroom, as well as allowing them the opportunity to learn the techniques of organic agriculture. Using unheated, solar-powered greenhouses, the farm is able to supply organically-grown produce year-round to participants of the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Additionally, when the weather is cooperative, student farmers operate a produce stand on Farm Lane in front of the Auditorium to give members of the MSU community a chance to bring fresh, organic produce into their homes.

The MSU Student Organic Farm will be working with the West Circle dining staff to help coordinate this effort. In the future, the goal is to offer a wider variety of fresh produce from the MSU Student Organic Farm in the Landon café. In the meantime, be sure to visit the Landon café salad bar beginning the second week of March to taste what organic farming has to offer!
