Brody Environmental Stewardship Event Promotes Recycling with Games and Prizes

The Brody Neighborhood promoted on-campus recycling October 6 and 8 at their first Environmental Stewardship Event. Located at the entrance of the Brody Building, approximately 80 students furthered their knowledge of recycling. The event featured cardboard displayed in the three stages of recycling, a bottle toss game and a questionnaire.

The cardboard display included assembled boxes containing polystyrene and empty assembled boxes, both of which represented examples of cardboard that was not yet ready to recycle. The display exhibited how only empty, broken down boxes were ready to be recycled. The steps to successful cardboard recycling were also posted near the Brody Dining Hall to inform students.

Students pitched in at the event by tossing plastic bottles and laundry detergent bottles into a recycling bin to win a prize. They were also entered into a drawing for correctly answering five short questions pertaining to recycling on campus.

Brody has been trying to capture as much recycling as possible by placing cardboard dumpsters near trash dumpsters and speaking with students to inform them of the recycling locations in their halls.
